Why You Don’t Need To Buy A New Frame When Your Lenses Break
A lot of people will uneccessarily spend money on new frames whenever they’re given a new prescription by their optician or when their current glasses break. However you don’t need to spend such a high amount of money on new frames just for new or replacement lenses.
Instead of paying out this money, you could elect to get your glasses reglazed, saving you the cost of a new pair. This means you can save money and keep hold of the frames you’ve been accustomed to.
It’s not just prescription glasses you can take to be reglazed either; most pairs of sunglasses will also allow you to adopt the same approach. Let’s say you’ve just bought yourself a very expensive pair of designer sunglasses and you accidently crack one of the lenses. In most instances, you’d probably expect to have to buy an entirely new pair. Taking your glasses with broken lenses down to an optician and getting them reglazed will save you the cost of having to buy a new pair. Sunglasses can be reglazed whether you need prescription or non prescription lenses, meaning it’s a perfect option for anyone.
The only issue you might come across with sunglasses is if they are particularly curved. If you do have excessively curved sunglasses it’s worth checking with your local optician via the phone or internet before taking your frames in as they sometimes have issue reglazing frames above a certain curvature.
If you’ve broken your frame, then unfortunately you will need to purchase a new pair of glasses, as the frames can’t be replaced in the same way. You’ll also want to double check with your optician if you have a pair of glasses with a damaged frame, even if they’re not broken. Opticians on the whole will only be able to reglaze glasses if the frame is capable of withstanding the reglazing process, so damaged frames will need to be checked and evaluated.
So if you do own a pricy pair of Oakley sunglasses or similar and you crack a lense, take them down to your local optician before deciding to shell out on a new pair, you could save yourself a fortune!
