<p>Ms Lawrie, who is also minister for trade and minister for Asian relations, also said favourable links to the growing Philippines economy.</p>
<p>She said: &#8220;In this, the Asian century, the Territory stands positioned to reap the benefits of our important position, business-friendly economy and resource wealth.&#8221;</p>

<p>The bank&#8217;s global research publication, The RBA Observer, foretells that the cash rate will be cut by 25 basis points when the Reserve Bank of Australia&#8217;s financial policy board meets tomorrow (February 7) for the 1st time since the beginning of the year.</p>
<p>Slow global growth and lingering unease about the financial and economical situation in Europe together with the easing labour market, set an ideal stage for a cut tomorrow that&#039;s in line with the 2 reductions made by the council in November and December last year.</p>
<p>Another two cuts to the cash rate are expected to be made within the first part of 2012, HSBC foresees.</p>
<p>New housing activity will be boosted by a slashed cash rate, according to the Housing Industry Association&#8217;s chief economist Harley Dale.</p>
<p>But the full effects of any cuts may only be felt if they&#039;re passed on by the banks in total.</p>
<p>Rate cuts also must be supported by govt measures, Dr Dale said, which should also provide stimulus to new home building.</p>
<p>This statement was also echoed by Peter Jones, chief financial consultant at Master Builders Australia, who requested lower interest rates in a move to boost confidence in the property market.</p>
<p>Talking last Thursday (February 2), Jones said: &#8220;With the immediate challenge to revive confidence and drive a personal sector recovery, the building industry is banking on further rate cuts to help turbo-charge confidence and stabilise a uncertain market.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Master Builders Australia believes that the November and December rate cuts by themselves won?t be enough and calls on the Reserve Bank to lower rates the week after next to re-ignite activity in the building industry. &#8220;.</p>
