Making it in sports
One of the wonderful things in our society is sports. From professional athletes all the way down to little kids. We get to enjoy it all.One very big thing about sports, it doesn’t matter how good you are, it all comes down to a mental game.
What am I referring to with that?We all know about the great athletes physically who just couldn’t make it work. When you look at why, a lot of times it was in their head. I know this for a fact helping a lot of athletes as a sports psychologist in San Diego. At each skill level you get to, what you will see is that everyone there is pretty good. The ones that can overcome the mental part of the game are the ones that will find success.
A lot of times the thing holding an athlete back from success is their mental attitude. We see extreme cases in pro sports where promising stars just can’t do it anymore.
But we also know about the cases where a struggling athelete who hired a sports psychologist suddenly turned it around.
In golf, Tiger Woods is hands down the best goler our there in terms of his mental game.Yes, he is probably the best at his game. But it is amazing to watch his competitors wilt under pressure when playing him.Very vivid proof that shows just how mental sports are.
So for athletes that maybe want to go onto a professional career, they should start in high school.By beginning in high school, what I mean is to be sure that they tune their mental game into top form. If they have to they should hire a therapist. I get hired all the time as a teen counselor in San Diego to help young athletes.
When it comes down to making it big or being mediocre, it could mean all the difference in the world. So if you find yourself struggling in your sport, look at yourself. Most of the times the struggles physically are because of the mental struggles we face. Hiring someone like a family therapist in San Diego can change that.
