How Being Tall Got Me $1,000 College Scholarship
Although expensive, there is no question that college education is important, being that it can improve a person’s earning potential. For this reason, I already looked for scholarships and grants that I could use for my postsecondary education. One of the scholarships I was able to get was worth $1,000, and I was able to qualify for it because I’m tall, 6’3 to be exact. Yes, you read it right. I got a thousand bucks to use for my studies because I am tall.
The Tall Clubs International (TCI) scholarship is among the widely known unusual scholarships for college students. The main eligibility requirement for the said scholarship is being tall, at least 5’10” for women and 6’2” for men. I downloaded the application form from the foundation’s official website and got in touch with a TCI member club to request for sponsorship. There are at least fifty TCI member clubs in North America, and about twenty percent of them are here in California.
I learned about unusual scholarships from a cousin who also was able to avail one while she was still a college sophomore. Her scholarship, also worth a thousand bucks, was awarded based on left-handedness. There are an abundance of unusual scholarships one can get nowadays and the World Wide Web is an excellent tool to search for them. For my part, I just entered “unusual scholarships” on Google and the websites listed on the results page. I also came across websites that aggregated these wacky scholarships. To get these scholarships you need to pass their strict qualifications.
Each scholarship provider has its own guidelines as to application, details of which are usually found on their respective websites. Sometimes, you have to join a contest to avail the scholarship. For instance, there is one contest wherein applicants should wear a dress or suit constructed from duct tape during their prom night. Whoever has the best looking get-up will win five thousand bucks worth of college scholarship.
Although these scholarships have very specific eligibility requirements, it is possible to qualify in more than one of them. At the same time, they can be used with other financial student aid from federal sources to further bring down school-related expenses.
