The Pell Grant is a government sponsored scholarship, instituted to financially assist undergraduate students who are struggling to pay their college tuition fees. Every year, a large number of students benefit from this grant. Since it’s a grant, the awardees aren’t required to repay the cash. EFC is calculated using a standardized formula based on financial information like parent’s salary or student’s salary (if independent), size of the family etc. Provided other needs are satisfied, your EFC score would be the deciding factor for your eligibility for the grant.

EFC not merely decides an applicant’s eligibility for the grant but also the size of the grant. Other determining factors include college fees, size of your family and other various college expenses. The monetary aid received through the Pell Grant won’t cover up all your college expenses but it would definitely cover a considerable part of your college fees. To take care of the rest of your expenses, you can take up a part time job. If you meet all Pell Grant eligibility criteria, then it’s preferable to submit the application form as fast as possible.
